Derech Eretz Upgrades Highway 6 Toll System with Advanced Technology from Vertex
Derech Eretz, the concessionaire operating Israel’s Highway 6 toll road, has completed a significant upgrade to its toll collection system. The company purchased advanced technology from the American company Vertex, which will be deployed using NetApp storage systems and Oracle and Cisco servers.
As part of the Highway 6 expansion project, signed between Derech Eretz and the State of Israel, the company was required to upgrade both the toll gates along the highway and the central tolling system housed in the road’s control center.
Infrastructure Upgrade with Leading Technologies
The upgrade process was led by Vertex and included a thorough evaluation of various IT infrastructure solutions. Following the review, Derech Eretz and Vertex selected a solution based on two NetApp A800 storage systems, in combination with servers from Oracle and Cisco, which best met the project’s performance, scale, and resilience requirements.
The project was implemented in partnership with We-Ankor, a subsidiary of the Hilan Group, which has been a trusted IT partner of Derech Eretz for over a decade.
Sharon Hayut, VP of Technology and Information Security at Derech Eretz, said:
“Since its inception, Derech Eretz has embraced advanced technologies to improve the services it offers. We believe that the right use of technology enhances efficiency and service quality, ultimately leading to better business outcomes.
In this project, we found NetApp, Oracle, and Cisco—together with the high-level service of We-Ankor—to be the natural and strategic choice.”
NetApp, Cisco, Oracle, and We-Ankor: A Strategic Collaboration
Erez Gal-Hen, CTO at NetApp Israel, commented:
“Derech Eretz is built on NetApp infrastructure, and our new solutions significantly increase their data volumes and improve performance at scale.
The successful collaboration between the Derech Eretz teams, We-Ankor professionals, and NetApp engineers formed the foundation for this project’s success.”
Yigal Babian, Strategic Account Sales Manager at We-Ankor, added:
“We have a long-standing partnership with Derech Eretz, always focusing on delivering business value alongside technological innovation.
As a leading partner of NetApp and Cisco in Israel, and in cooperation with Oracle, we delivered a comprehensive end-to-end infrastructure solution for the upgraded tolling system—enhancing both efficiency and user experience while optimizing the budget.”
Idan Omsi, Senior Solution Architect at We-Ankor, added:
“The solution we implemented took into account Derech Eretz’s specific business and technical requirements. We selected NetApp SAN storage, integrated with Cisco MDS switches, providing high availability, resilience, rapid performance, and built-in AI-powered ransomware protection.
The infrastructure also includes Active/Active disaster recovery sites for both Oracle and application environments. We deployed Cisco UCSx servers for centralized server management and advanced monitoring using Cisco Intersight Cloud.
This new infrastructure is a significant technological leap in Israel’s toll road management.”
